The fifth round of successful Regional Economic Development (RED) Grants were announced on Friday, 2 December 2022 for the Peel region by the Minister for Regional Development, the Hon Alannah MacTiernan MLC.  Seven projects will share in $680,000 in Round 5 grants to support manufacturing, hospitality, tourism, and training industries in the region.

The projects include:

Applicant Project Funding
Shift Engineering Funding will support the purchase of a hydraulic CNC press brake (bending) machine and the construction of new workshop premises. Introducing this equipment will expand the company’s customer base, reduce production lead time and costs, and enable Shift Engineering to take on additional work from Tier 1 mining companies and work normally outsourced to the Perth metro area. The new workshop will provide a suitable premise for the CNC machine and enable future expansion. $200,000
Boundary Island Brewery Expansion of brewhouse facilities: This project will increase beer production by 150% and enable expansion to the wholesale market with the purchase of a canning and labelling machine, and the development of storage space to house all production consumables. Funding will also support improving facilities to cater for functions and events and showcase their brand externally. $100,000
Coolibah Care Funding will support the redevelopment of not-for-profit organisation Coolibah Care’s existing training space into a modern contemporary training hub. The project will provide a suitable and innovative training environment for skills enhancement and will help attract new staff and retain current staff in the Mandurah area. $100,000
The Exchange Hotel Funding will support a high-quality fit-out of the central kitchen and bar area as part of a major redevelopment of this heritage site located in the Pinjarra town centre. The re-opening of the Exchange Hotel will create a new hospitality business to fill local market demand, create local jobs and increase tourism diversity in the region. $100,000
Jacaranda Hill Farm and Accommodation Funding will support the construction of a sustainable off-grid farmstay cabin in the Shire of Murray. This project will create a unique agritourism and accommodation offering, increase the diversity of tourism experiences in the Peel region and leverage existing rural assets. $80,000
Dwellingup Adventures Funding will support the construction and operation of a kiosk and bike/watercraft hire facility at the Dwaarlindjirraap (Baden Powell) recreation area at Lane Poole Reserve. The project will provide bikes, canoes and other watercraft for hire, along with the convenience of kiosk food and beverage and camping supplies to enhance the visitor experience at the Reserve. $60,000
Oakford Equestrian Centre Oakford Equestrian training facilities upgrade: This project will build 20 new training jumps at the equestrian centre, increasing the centre’s productivity and capacity for additional attendees, coaching and clinics. The upgrade will attract more equestrians to use the Centre and create jobs within the region’s equine industry. $40,000
