The people of Peel bring a wide range of life experiences, and access to a supportive, focused study environment is already making a meaningful difference for those pursuing further education.
Mandurah Universities Centre (MUC) opened its doors to community in May this year, providing students enrolled at any Australian publicly funded tertiary institution with a calm and supportive environment conducive to study.
So far, the team has welcomed approximately 250 students into the space and has issued after-hours access tokens to eligible students, highlighting Peel’s need for accessible study facilities. MUC complements, rather than duplicates existing university services. Offering a free local support hub that helps students focus on their studies, save time on commuting and avoid the need to relocate. This enables students to study close to home, receive academic assistance, connect with others all whilst balancing their work and family commitments.
MUC is supported by the Australian Government under the Suburban University Study Hubs program and operated by Regional Development Australia Peel. For the Peel region, the Centre ensures equitable access to resources with the aim of increasing participation in higher education, supporting local workforce development and contributing to regional economic growth. Current students can register for membership if they are enrolled in courses ranging from TAFE Cert III to university postgraduate studies. Prospective students are also encouraged to connect with MUC to learn more about higher education pathways and study options available locally and online.
MUC is equipped with:
- high-speed internet
- dual monitors and sit-stand desks
- group study spaces and soundproof pods
- free printing
- kitchenette amenities
- friendly staff on hand providing academic skills and administrative support
Designed to support students whether they’re attending on campus or studying remotely, MUC provides a flexible, 24/7 study hub that meets the needs of students with busy lives.
“Having access to resources like desktops, the conference room for planning, the smart board to test out lessons, and the printer for preparing materials meant I arrived each day well-prepared and ready for my placement.” – Joshua, Bachelor of Education, Murdoch University student studying at MUC.
The Centre is located at 17/38 Mandurah Terrace, Mandurah 6210, and is staffed Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
