In the last decade an additional 3,000 new residents or 730 households per year settled in the Peel Region attracted by the quality and range of the lifestyles on offer. In addition to 50 kilometres of coastline on the Indian Ocean and 130 square kilometres of inland waterways for swimming, boating and other water-based recreation, residents also have access to the Serpentine and Yalgorup National Parks. Thousands of campers and day-trippers from metropolitan Perth are also drawn to Lane-Poole Reserve near Dwellingup comprising 55,000 hectares, ranging from the steeply forested valley slopes and rock-rimmed pools of the Murray River near the Darling Scarp to the more open, undulating jarrah and wandoo woodlands further east.
Western Australia's longest walking trail, the 963 kilometre Bibbulmun Track, traverses the Peel Region and Lane Poole Reserve as it winds from Kalamunda, on the outskirts of Perth, to Albany in the Great Southern Region. Also passing through the Region is the Munda Biddi Bicycle Trail - a purpose built trail designed for mountain bike enthusiasts and recreational cyclists who are seeking a safe and enjoyable bush cycling experience. The trail uses a network of bush tracks and old railway lines to link cyclists with many charming towns and forest attractions including Jarrahdale and Dwellingup through to Collie.
The Peel Region is also home to the Hotham Valley Tourism Railway, a railway network and collection of vintage engines and rolling stock that have retained their original character and provide an unforgettable experience to visitors from Perth and beyond. Key attractions for visitors and residents in Mandurah include the Mandurah Ocean Marina, which provides facilities for both professional and recreational fishing and boating enthusiasts. The Region’s theatrical, musical dance and other artistic endeavours are also catered for in the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre.
More recently a new private Peel Zoo has opened in the Region.
