Project investment is an important aspect of the Region’s economic growth and development. Total value of project investment grew significantly during the five year period 2003 – 2008 , from $1.54 billion in December quarter 2003, to $5.46 billion in December quarter 2008. As at the September quarter 2009, project investment had reduced to $805 million as a result of the completion of a number of projects, namely the Perth Bunbury Highway, the completion of the Newmont Boddington Gold expansion and the completion of the 4.5 star Sebel Hotel Mandurah.
More recently the Mandurah Entrance Road has been completed at a cost of approximately $155 million.
Major projects currently under construction or consideration include the expansion of the BHP Billiton Worsley Alumina Pty Ltd bauxite mine near Boddington; Matilda Zircon Ltd (formerly Olympia Resources) – Heavy Mineral Sands (Leucoxene project), Keysbrook; Fairbridge Village Development – Stage 7.
