Peel Development Commission Regional Initiatives

The charter of the Peel Development Commission is the sustainable development of the Peel Region.

Since its establishment in 1993 the Commission has played a significant role in the development of the Region. Many projects - both large and small - have benefited local and regional communities.

Regional Development Scheme Grants

2008 saw the final round of Regional Development Scheme funding, which closed 5th September.

The primary objective of the Regional Development Scheme (RDS) was to strengthen the Region's community and economy and enhance the Region's natural and built environment.

Peel's RDS provided grants of up to $500,000 for a mix of capital works projects and other projects which included feasibility studies, regional and local marketing programs as well as festivals and events. Priority areas included:

  • Employment creation
  • Education and training
  • Caring for our environment
  • Social initiatives resulting in long term positive communities
  • Infrastructure as it relates to the above priorities
