| BODDINGTON OPEN DAY AND LIONS RODEO WEEKEND |
Hundreds of people from across the State are expected to descend on Boddington to get a taste of A Golden Opportunity this weekend when the town, in conjunction with the Boddington Lions Rodeo holds its Open Day (9am until midnight, Saturday 7 November 2009).
A Golden Opportunity awaits visitors and their families at Boddington with the much anticipated $US2.9 billion expansion of the Newmont Boddington Gold Mine bringing opportunities for work, lifestyle, investment and business.
Boddington is located just 123km south-east of Perth, about an hour’s drive from Mandurah and Armadale and will be on display on 7 November with a host of attractions for families.
The Peel Development Commission acting chief executive Colleen Yates said the Commission is pleased to support this event.
“Boddington is experiencing a new phase of growth as a result of the recommissioning of the Newmont Boddington Gold Mine. There are new housing developments, increased services such as child care and we’re keen for people to look at what could be a golden opportunity for them to move out of the rat race, check out business opportunities and take a look around this growing community,” she said.
Visitors will get a chance to learn about life in Boddington while enjoying many events over the weekend including art and craft exhibitions at the Boddington Town Hall, Arts Centre and Old School. For real estate enquiries, WA Country Builders will have a ‘home open’ with consultants on hand for anyone seeking information about house and land packages in Boddington. Rotorvation Helicopter Services will be offering joy flights to view the town and gold mine for only $70 per person all day Saturday and the Colonial Brewing Company Clydesdales will be on display and perform demonstrations.
BHP Billiton Worsley Alumina and Newmont Boddington Gold will host stalls at the rodeo grounds for anyone seeking further information about mining employment opportunities. The Boddington District High School will be open from 11am – 1pm for families wanting information about the school. Boddington District High School is a modern K-12 school that offers access to current technologies and a wide range of recreational facilities. Facilities include everything from computer and science laboratories to a fully equipped arts department.
Boddington Shire President Paul Carrotts said the open day was an opportunity for visitors to come and experience what Boddington has to offer.
“There is an added sense of excitement as our open day coincides with the Boddington Lions Rodeo. So for those families visiting with the prospect of living and working in Boddington, there will be a wide range of attractions on the day, “he said.
